The Process.

Referral Form

Our referral form alerts us that you are interested in accessing Play Therapy services for your child.

It's a chance for you to briefly tell us about yourself, your child, and the challenges they are currently facing.

Once we have this information, we will contact you to arrange the next step. You can access our referral form here.

Intake Meeting

After completing the referral form, I'll contact you to arrange a parent intake meeting.

During this meeting, we'll dive deeper to gain information about your child, their history, and the challenges they are currently facing. From here, we can set some therapy goals. This meeting is for the parents/caregivers to attend without your child, and can take up to 90 minutes. This can be completed in-person, or online. This is also an opportunity for parents/caregivers to ask any questions.

Sessions 1-5

Once the intake meeting has been completed, I will meet your child for their first play session. During the session, it will be just the therapist and the child in the therapy space. Sessions are scheduled weekly at the same time each week with each session being 45 minutes in duration.

We will continue weekly play sessions for 5 weeks before meeting for a parent update meeting.

Endings.

When we have decided together that the child has come to the end of their therapeutic journey we will give them 2 or more sessions to have a healthy goodbye. We will ask parents to complete a follow up questionnaire to show change and we will offer a last parent update session.

Even though its an ending, it doesn’t have to be forever! Children are always welcome back and do often return when things pop up in their lives that they need to process and play out. Often it is for a shorter period but it is always relished by our therapists who get to see their clients again!
